The Heart & Soul of Danny Boy Records
Born and raised in Detroit, Daniel Carlisle — better known to the world as Hush — has spent over three decades carving out a legacy built on authenticity, resilience, and raw storytelling. From the streets of Detroit to major-label releases, independent movements, film work, and entrepreneurial ventures, Hush has remained one of the city’s most respected underground voices.
Before the solo records and major-label opportunities, Hush first made his mark as one half of the influential Detroit hip-hop group Da Ruckus alongside longtime partner Uncle ILL. Together, Da Ruckus became known throughout the city for their gritty lyricism, explosive live performances, and relentless work ethic during a pivotal era in Detroit’s underground rap scene. Grinding through showcases, local television appearances, independent releases, street promotion, and countless performances, Da Ruckus helped build a foundation that would later open doors for Hush’s solo career. Their music represented the hunger, energy, and raw authenticity that defined Detroit hip-hop in the 1990s and earned them a loyal following long before industry recognition arrived.
Emerging from Detroit’s legendary hip-hop scene, Hush built his reputation through relentless grind, lyricism, and a fearless blend of street realism and emotional honesty. His career eventually led to a major-label deal with Geffen Records, where he released his acclaimed album Bulletproof, helping solidify his place in hip-hop culture. Over the years, he has collaborated with a wide range of artists and producers while continuing to evolve creatively without compromising his identity.
But Danny Boy Records represents more than music.
Founded by Hush, the label stands as a home for authentic artistry, independent thinking, and Detroit culture. Built from years of industry experience, setbacks, victories, and reinvention, Danny Boy Records exists to create music with substance — music that speaks to struggle, survival, loyalty, growth, and legacy. The label embraces everything from hardcore Detroit hip-hop and cinematic storytelling to experimental records that push boundaries while staying rooted in truth.
Throughout his career, Hush has earned recognition not only for his music, but for his impact on the community. Beyond entertainment, he co-founded Detroit Dog Rescue, helping launch Detroit’s first no-kill animal shelter and bringing national attention to the city’s stray dog crisis.
As an artist, producer, songwriter, entrepreneur, and storyteller, Hush continues to evolve while remaining deeply connected to the city that raised him. His catalog reflects real life — pain, redemption, survival, family, loss, love, and perseverance — all filtered through the unmistakable sound and spirit of Detroit.
Today, Danny Boy Records serves as both a creative platform and a legacy brand: a place where independent artistry matters, where stories still come first, and where the music is built to outlive trends.
This isn’t manufactured.
This is lived experience.
This is Detroit.
This is Danny Boy Records.
